CRM for AI agents: two meanings, and which one you need

Searching for the best CRM for AI agents turns up two different things. Some CRMs bring their own AI agents that write emails or answer support requests. Others let your agent, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, read and change the CRM's data. Both are called AI-native, and they solve different problems. This guide separates the two, shows where the large CRMs stand as of 10 Oct 2026, and is open about where Time Momentum fits and where it does not.

Two meanings of “CRM for AI agents”

  • AI agents inside the CRM

The vendor's agents work in its CRM: prospecting, support replies, data questions. You configure them in the CRM, and they run there.

  • A CRM your agent runs

Your own agent reads and writes the CRM through an API, an MCP server or a command line, next to the code and files it already works on.

AI agents inside the CRM

Some sales CRMs ship agents of their own. HubSpot, for example, lists a Prospecting Agent, a Customer Agent and a Data Agent among others (HubSpot AI, as of 10 Oct 2026).

This fits when your work is sales and service: leads, pipelines, email sequences, support tickets. The agents work on the vendor's data model and inside the vendor's limits.

A CRM your agent runs

Several CRMs now offer access for outside agents. HubSpot's remote MCP server has been generally available since 13 Apr 2026, connects via OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and can create and update contacts, companies, deals, tickets and activities (HubSpot changelog). Attio runs a hosted MCP server with around 50 tools, signed in via OAuth, where write operations ask for confirmation (Attio docs). Salesforce announced its hosted MCP servers as generally available in April 2026 (Salesforce Developers). All as of 10 Oct 2026.

If your agent should maintain contacts and deals in a sales CRM, these are the tools to compare.

What to check before your agent runs a CRM

Whichever CRM you choose, four questions decide whether your agent can work in it safely:

  • Does the interface cover everything you need, with a schema the agent can read?
  • Does the agent get its own revocable key with limited rights?
  • Are irreversible actions confirmed in the tool itself, not just in the prompt?
  • Can the agent show you a request before sending it?

The full list of eight checks, with a real incident as the starting point, is in the guide business software for AI agents.

Where Time Momentum fits

Time Momentum is not a sales CRM. It is for agencies and freelancers who deliver client work with AI agents: clients, orders with budgets, effort including AI costs, timesheets, e-invoices, payments and profitability per client and project.

Your agent runs all of it through the command line tm. Every API operation has exactly one command, irreversible steps such as issuing or cancelling an invoice need an explicit --yes, and --dry-run shows the request before it is sent. Agent access is part of Pro.

Where Time Momentum does not fit

  • No leads, deals or sales pipeline.
  • No email campaigns or sequences, and no sending of invoices or payment reminders by email.
  • One contact person per client, not a contact database.
  • No MCP server. Agents work through the command line, which needs an agent with a shell.

You can use both: a sales CRM until the contract is signed, then Time Momentum for the order, the work and the invoice. There is no sync between them, but an agent with access to both can carry the client over.

What your agent does in Time Momentum

  • Create the client Muster GmbHtm customers create --name "Muster GmbH" --payment-terms-days 14
  • Build the September invoice for Muster GmbHtm invoices build --customer-id <client-id> --month 2026-09
  • What is still unpaid?tm payments outstanding
  • How profitable were my clients this year?tm revenue --from 2026-01-01 --to 2026-12-31

Agent access is part of Pro.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI-native CRM?

The term is used for both: a CRM built around its own AI features, and a CRM designed to be operated by AI agents through an API, MCP server or command line. Check which of the two a vendor means.

Which CRM is best for AI agents?

For sales work with contacts, deals and pipelines, compare the MCP access of the sales CRMs, for example HubSpot, Attio or Salesforce. For client work that ends in an invoice, with effort, AI costs, orders and payments, Time Momentum lets your agent run the whole process through one command line.

Is Time Momentum a replacement for HubSpot or Salesforce?

No. It has no leads, deals, pipeline or email campaigns. It covers what comes after the sale: orders, effort, invoices, payments and profitability.

Does Time Momentum have an MCP server?

No. Agents use the command line tm, which works in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any agent that can run shell commands.
